Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1 - 4Cape Town

You will be met at Cape Town International Airport by our representative and transferred to the Victoria & Alfred Hotel at the Waterfront where you will be spending the next 4 nights in a loft room on Bed & Breakfast.

The Victoria & Alfred Hotel is a superb harbour location that puts guests right in the middle of all the attractions, shops and eateries of the Waterfront. This sophisticated and characterful venue, set right on the Pierhead of the V&A Waterfront, has sweeping views of the harbour, the city and the mountain. Built-in 1904 as the North Quay Warehouse and converted in 1990 to a 94-room luxury hotel. The Victoria & Alfred Hotel is popular with guests and there is a very good reason why it is often called ‘Your home in the heart of the Waterfront’. The ambience of colonial Cape Town is apparent as you step into the foyer, and historical touches abound, such as the information on various shipwrecks around the Cape coast. The hotel has two restaurants and a bar with outstanding views of the mountain and the harbour, as well as excellent spa facilities. It is renowned for its high level of service to both business and leisure travellers, and guests can make use of the travel consultancy, the valet service, a childminding service, a secretarial service and hotel transfer services. It is a favourite location for business and private functions.

During your 4-night stay in the “Mother City”, explore all that this vibrant city has to offer. Take the Cable Car to the Summit of Table Mountain, and sip cocktails at Sunset overlooking Camps Bay Beach. If history is your fort board on the Ferry to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was held, prisoner.

Visit the Breath-taking Cape Peninsula, explore Hout Bay and take an optional boat trip to Duiker Seal Island, visit Simon’s Town and watch the penguins frolicking in the waves at Boulders Penguin Beach on the peninsula’s east coast – home to a colony of African penguins!

Visit Cape Point, or watch the penguins frolicking in the waves at Boulders Penguin Beach. Take a morning to walk through the beautiful Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, or if history is your thing – take the Ferry to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was held, prisoner.

Take the time to browse the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, showcasing a treasure of indigenous South African plants.

Shop till you drop at Cavendish, Canal Walk and the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront.

The Devon Valley Hotel is tucked away in a tranquil green corner of Stellenbosch, allowing guests to escape the busy town and find peace in breathtakingly beautiful surroundings and luxurious comfort.

Most of the fifty stylishly furnished rooms offer simply spectacular views across vineyards and olive groves towards the Helderberg in the distance. This charming Stellenbosch hotel is well-known for its authentic ‘handmade hospitality, with a proud history dating back to 1947 when the main building was constructed from Canadian Cedarwood.  The Devon Valley Hotel offers guests four superb and unique dining options. The Flavours Restaurant is the hotel’s signature restaurant and serves authentic Cape cuisine, while the Cedarwood Lounge and Bar is a more informal setting featuring comfortable leather couches. The Vineyard Terrace offers outdoor dining, ideal for light and lazy lunches, and the Seasons restaurant has a contemporary feel and is open for breakfasts and lunches.

Day 7 - 9From Wine Tasting to Wildlife viewing

Leaving behind spectacular views across vineyards, it is time to meet the king of the jungle, the lion and its clan of big five. A road transfer followed by a scheduled flight from Cape Town to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport will take you to the Big 5 territory. Upon arrival at the airport, you will be met and transferred to Arathusa Lodge located in the Northern part of the Sabi Sands Game Reserve.

Located in Mpumalanga Province, Sabi Sands Game Reserve shares an unfenced border with the Kruger National Park. This region affords exceptional game sightings of African wildlife that roam freely between the two areas. This is Big Five territory – home of elephants, rhinos, lions, Buffalo and Leopards as well as Cheetahs and the endangered Wild dog.

Expect close encounters with abundant wildlife in the renowned Sabi Sands Game Reserve, South Africa. Off-road adventures are a highlight in this game-rich corridor that adjoins the Kruger National Park. Guests will be treated to daily 4 x 4 Game Drives: one in the morning and the second one in the afternoon/early evening. Your experienced ranger and expert local tracker will share their extensive knowledge and love for the African bush with you. Animals and birds in the reserve have become used to having the game drive vehicles nearby due to a carefully planned and managed habituation process. This allows us to get close to them and forms part of the appeal of the Luxury Lodge Safari!

Enjoy your afternoon game drive with a stop for Sundowners to stretch your legs while marvelling at the splendour of an African sunset, and the absolute tranquillity of the bush.

As darkness falls, nocturnal animals of the bush get excited as they celebrate “their dawn and come out”. The skilled tracker will scan the landscape using a spotlight, which illuminates animals’ eyes. A variety of completely different species can be seen on the night drive back to the lodge. Arrival at the lodge is usually around 7 pm, allowing time to freshen up before enjoying a sumptuous dinner.

Dinner is served under the stars (weather permitting) and combines African and Western cuisine.

Time to discuss the afternoon highlights around the open fire and plan for the next day with your ranger.

Room Type: Waterhole Facing Suite
Meal Basis: Full Board including all local drinks and house wine (Fully Inclusive)

Day 10 - 11Kruger to Victoria Falls

It is time to bid farewell to the Big 5 territory this morning. After your last morning game drive, return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast and afterwards complete the check-out procedures before being transferred back by road to the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport for your regional Flight to Victoria Falls, home to one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.

As you descend over Victoria Falls, catch your first glimpse of “Mosi-oa-Tunya” – The Smoke That Thunders – as the local tribes call it.

Upon arrival at Victoria Falls Airport, you will be met and transferred to Ilala Lodge, your base for the next 3 days. Enjoy welcome drinks while completing check-in procedures.

Ilala is a family-run hotel in Victoria Falls, situated within walking distance of the mighty Victoria Falls and the town centre. The Lodge offers upmarket accommodation in a gracious and secluded ambience and the décor evokes a feeling of adventure and romance.

Victoria Falls have been billed as the Greatest Falling Curtain of Water on this Planet, making it one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.

The Victoria Falls are 1700m wide and are made up of five different “falls”. Four of these are in Zimbabwe and one is in Zambia. They are known as The Devil’s Cataract, Main Falls, Rainbow Falls and Horseshoe Falls in Zimbabwe and the Eastern Cataract in Zambia.

The hotel grounds are secluded and well-maintained and border the Zambezi National Park

The hotel has a large terrace running along the front of it and the view from here, of the never-ending spray from the Falls, is enchanting. Ilala Lodge is the perfect spot from which to embark on a voyage of discovery in one of Africa’s favourite tourist destinations. Here, historical sites, culinary experimentation and a host of activities in pristine natural surroundings are within your reach.

Wild animals, such as warthog and impala, often graze on the hotel lawns and restaurant diners can see and hear the majestic roar of “the smoke that thunders” in the background and enjoy Zimbabwe’s finest a la carte cuisine in The Palm Restaurant, featuring tranquil views and elegant colonial ambience. A second restaurant, Kubika, will whisk you away on a culinary adventure, serving delicious crocodile, kudu and ostrich dishes with a Mongolian twist.
