South Africa

South Africa, the southernmost country on the African continent, renowned for its varied topography, great natural beauty, and cultural diversity, all of which have made the country a favoured destination for travellers since the legal ending of apartheid (or racial separation) in 1994.

It is also known as the “world in one country”: South Africa is a great destination for a varied holiday. It offers fantastic wildlife viewing, beautiful beaches, trendy cities and much more. Kruger is its flagship park with many self-drive and budget options, and all of the Big Five are easily seen.  Head out on a Big 5 safari, soak up the sun on unspoilt beaches, sample fine wines in vineyard-clad valleys or revel in a world-class restaurant after playing 18 holes on a championship golf course. No matter what’s on your vacation wish list, a South Africa holiday will tick all the right boxes.

South Africa is most certainly the most diverse country in Africa and home to some of the continent’s most iconic wildlife, destinations and experiences. Best time to travel to South Africa

South Africa is a year around destination. No matter when you decide to travel, there’s always something amazing going on— from the Kaapse Klopse (officially known as the Cape Town Minstrel Carnival) in January to The Pink Loerie Mardi Gras and Arts Festival held in Knysna in May of every year to the peak Whale and Big five winter season to blissful sunshine and Christmas festivities in summer.

If going on a safari is the highlight of your trip, winter period of May to September is the best time because of cooler temperatures, thinning vegetation and wildlife clustering around waterholes.

For safaris in the Western Cape, the summer months are drier but coincide with the busy Christmas period and South Africa’s summer school holidays.

Besides good game viewing, winter time also brings lower prices and with dry weather, it means better road conditions for self-drive safaris at parks like Addo and Mkhuze, while the chill keeps mosquitoes at bay. June to August is the best time for budget travellers and this is the time to avoid the crowds. This period is the rainy season in Cape Town and the Western Cape with sporadic rains in many other parts of the country.

November to March is High Season in South Africa and coincide with Summertime which is

the hottest time of year together with a lot of humidity. Expect some rain during that time, particularly from December through February. So, if you’re looking to visit during this peak season, you’ll need to plan. Accommodation in coastal areas and national parks is usually fully booked many months in advance, and popular vacation spots see a substantial increase accommodation prices.
