Itinerary

Day 1 - 2Maun - Okavango Delta

On arrival in Maun, you will be met by our representative and assisted with your check-in onto your scheduled light aircraft to the flagship Belmond Eagle Island Lodge in the Okavango Delta, a stylish sanctuary in the heart of the delta that brings timeless luxury to the Botswana wetlands.
Situated on the island of Xaxaba, this cool retreat, shaded by a canopy of indigenous trees and Ilala Palms, overlooks a surrounding lagoon fed by the tranquil waterways of the Delta. The area offers prolific birdlife and mammal sightings. It is also the site of one of the most romantic bars in the world, the Fish Eagle Bar, as quoted by The New York Times. High-ceilinged tented rooms flood with light; each has a plunge pool and oversized bed with views of the Delta. Get closer to the wildlife of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the region on 4 x 4 game drives, by local traditional mokoro canoe or motorboat excursions depending on the season – roam on foot or take to the air in an exhilarating helicopter flight overlooking the magnificent Botswana landscape. A wonderful, secluded retreat, Belmond Eagle Island Lodge offers a safari vacation that brings together the excitement of discovery and an experience of the true essence of an African safari.

Day 3 - 4Moremi Wildlife Reserve

After a peaceful morning sleep-in or a last morning activity at Belmond Eagle Island Lodge followed by a delicious breakfast, you will be transferred to the airstrip for your light aircraft flight to Belmond Khwai River Lodge where animal magic meets old-world indulgence.
Track big game in morning and afternoon game drives by open 4×4 safari vehicle in the Moremi Wildlife Reserve, renowned for frequent sightings of lion, leopard & cheetah, as well as wild dogs, whose numbers are so rapidly dwindling in other areas. Other games seen in the area are hyena, hippo and the full range of antelope, large and small, including the red lechwe.
Get closer to the wildlife than ever before on a Khwai Riverwalk with one of the camp’s experienced guides. Embrace the spirit of adventure as you trek through the rugged landscape, spotting animal tracks, curious insects, rare plant life and countless other amazing sights.
Game viewing is at its best in the dry season between July and October and for the keen ornithologist, birding can be very rewarding, especially between November to April. Bird lovers can conceal themselves in the camp’s private hide which enjoys elevated views across the Khwai River and is the perfect spot to observe the region’s rich variety of birds, including malachite kingfishers and open-billed storks.

A cultural visit to the local Khwai village can be arranged. Accompany by your guide and a local villager, take a stroll around the small village and chat with the locals – get a feel for their culture and their way of life.
Star gazing is another activity offered at the camp. Be captivated by the treasures of the boundless night sky. Using a telescope, focus on constellations that northern hemisphere visitors may never have seen before, such as the Southern Cross. You will also discover how Bushmen used the stars to locate the true south.
After a day spent in the savannah, unwind in the tranquil pool or share stories by the fire. For those wishing to enjoy further pampering, the lodge has a ‘Naturally Wild’ gym and spa facility. Guests can enjoy indulgent massages and body wraps in the spa or in the privacy of their tent.

Day 5 - 6Chobe National Park

After your usual early morning wake-up call with a cup of coffee and biscuits, head into the bush hoping to see one more time a pack of wild dogs and other predators before you leave for your final destination: Chobe National Park.
You will be met at Savute airstrip by the lodge team and transferred to Belmond Savute Elephant Lodge, a tented oasis set on the banks of the Savute Channel and considered the perfect base to discover the wonders of Chobe National Park.

The game viewing offered by the team at Savute Elephant Lodge is an experience not to be missed, especially if you are visiting in the summer months, after November’s first rains when thousands of animals are drawn to the area.
Savute Elephant Lodge’s highlights are its concentrations of Lion and Hyena, as well as its Leopard, Cheetah, Black-Backed Jackal and the many lone Elephant bulls, usually seen frequenting their favourite watering holes.
Game drives in open 4×4 safari vehicles are conducted in the Savute area, including the Savute Marsh. You will most likely see nearly all the major species in the area, such as giraffe, zebra, impala, tsessebe, roan, sable, wildebeest, kudu, buffalo, waterbuck, warthog, eland, as well as elephants and predators mentioned above.
On game drives in the park, listen out for the roar of roaming lions. Watch as the leopard and cheetah sprint across the Savute Channel. You may even enjoy a rare sighting of the rock-climbing klipspringers or the second-largest zebra migration in Africa, Explore baobab groves and ancient Bushmen paintings at Gubatsa Hills.
As night falls on the Savute Channel, gather around our campfire and experience a traditional Boma ritual. Watch the flames as a choir serenade with traditional songs and our chef serve African specialities. Learn and dance to rhythms handed down through generations as this marvellous communal experience comes to a close.
