Day 1Arrival Johannesburg OR Tambo – Sabi Sands Game Reserve

Arrive OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, and you will be met and assisted with picking up your hire car. From there drive to the Sabi Sands Game Reserve, a journey of
approximately 5 ½ hours’ drive through Highveld industrial, mining and agricultural areas. The scenery is pretty flat but this changes as you approach the Drakensberg Escarpment where you will drop down to the Lowveld. You will drive through White River and Hazyview, two small towns in the vicinities of the Kruger National Park. After approximately 34km, turn left at the Sabi Sand – Newington Gate sign.

On arrival at Savanna Lodge, enjoy a refreshing drink while completing the check-in procedures. Once you are settled into your luxury Suite, depending on your arrival time enjoy lunch or afternoon tea or just take a dip in your refreshing private plunge pool.
Savanna has 9 beautifully appointed suites. The thatched Savanna Suite consists of two separate en-suite bedrooms, each with its own deck and plunge pools. These rooms lead into a central elegantly furnished lounge, ideal for families or a small group wanting privacy and exclusivity.
Around 15h30 gather for a decadent High tea during which you will be introduced to your ranger who will share great pointers on how to spot the wild animals in the bush. After your briefing, Board on the lodge 4 x 4 Open Landcruiser before setting off on your first wildlife safari drive. The absence of windows and the elevated vantage position allow for excellent photographic opportunities. You will have an amazing chance not only to view the game but also to listen to and smell the African bush and its denizens.

While on Game Drive, you will stop for Sundowners at a magnificent location and toast the splendour of Africa as you watch the sunset. As darkness falls, nocturnal animals of the bush get excited as they celebrate “their dawn” and come out. Your skilled tracker will scan the landscape using a spotlight, which illuminates animals’ eyes. A variety of completely different species can be seen on the night drive back to the lodge. Arrival at the lodge is usually around 7 pm, allowing time to freshen up before enjoying dinner around a campfire with the sounds of the crackling fire and night noises discussing the afternoon highlights with your ranger and planning for tomorrow’s safari.

Room Type: Suite
Meal Type: All meals, teas and coffees, drinks (house wines, local brand spirits, beers and soft drinks), minibar, refreshments on a game drive, bush walks, wifi, laundry service, transfers to and from the lodge airstrip and VAT.

Day 2 - 3On the Safari in Sabi Sands Game Reserve

Guests visiting Savanna Lodge are treated to 2 game safari experiences per day. In between, they are encouraged to partake in bush walks and guests are escorted by an armed
Rangers. This is an opportunity to experience a whole new side of the African bush… The feeling of walking through the bush is very different and gives another perspective on what the safari experience is about.
When you walk through the bush you are completely immersed in nature, the sound and feel of the safari vehicle are gone and it’s just you and the bush. You are able to hear the many sounds around you, both near and far – such as the sound of the hooves of zebra running across the plains, or branches breaking as a herd of elephants move in the distance.
While walking, you are also able to focus on many smaller things such as flowers, trees, grass and insects and you will notice how all these things around you, however small, play an integral role in sustaining the natural environment.

Game drives, in an open safari vehicle, are conducted in the early morning and late afternoon every day in search of animals – both large and small. This means that about 8 hours of every day are spent in this natural sanctuary, in search of the creatures who call it home.
Experienced, knowledgeable, and personable guides are paired with local trackers, and together they ensure a first-class safari experience. Trackers sit up at the front of the vehicle looking for fresh animal tracks, while rangers skilfully navigate into ravines and through thickets in pursuit of fantastic game sightings.
Close encounters are guaranteed, and the animals are not threatened by our presence thanks to our sound conservation management policies. Expect one-of-a-kind photographic opportunities of The Big Five, and much more – including over 300 bird species.

Day 4Sabi Sands – Johannesburg

Wake up to the hissing of hundreds of crickets preparing for a warm bush day, and enjoy tea or coffee together with muffins, and rusks …. before setting off on your last morning game drive: one last opportunity to experience the magic that only the African Bush can offer!

After a hearty breakfast followed by check-out procedures, it is time to bid farewell to the bush. If time permits, on your way back to Johannesburg, you may visit the Panorama Escarpment and some of the view sites such as God’s Window, Blyde River Canyon, Berlin and Lisbon waterfalls, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, etc. Later proceed to Johannesburg OR Tambo Airport where you will drop your car hire and board your International Flight back home.
