Explore Zimbabwe, a country of beautiful scenery, pristine rainforests and magnificent wildlife parks.

Zimbabwe is a landlocked Country and borders South Africa, Botswana, Mozambique and Zambia. The country is known for its dramatic landscape and diverse wildlife, much of it within parks, reserves and safari areas. The Victoria Falls is one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the world and makes a thundering 108m drop into the narrow Batoka Gorge, from where there’s white-water rafting and bungee-jumping.

Zimbabwe is a truly beautiful country, arguably the most beautiful in Africa, and once known as the “breadbasket of Africa”, Zimbabwe has changed to a bankrupt country with major political, economic, social and other issues in recent years

The Victoria Falls is the widest waterfalls in Africa and are located on the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia. The Victoria Falls is over a mile wide and the local name Mosi-oa-Tunya – The Smoke that Thunders. The spray that the Falls produce, descends as an everlasting rainfall and this created a narrow strip of dense rainforest around the falls.

Best time to travel to Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe is considered a year-round destination, however the best time to visit Zimbabwe for a safari is between June to November, this is when the country is at its driest and temperatures are warm but not scorching like they are later in the year. But July to October is peak game-viewing season, with animals crowding around the few remaining water sources in national parks. The natural waterholes in the parks dry up and huge herds congregate at the lakes, man-made waterholes, and rivers.

December to March is considered the rainy season in Zimbabwe (with January generally being the wettest month) and some lodges in the Hwange National Park are close during that time. Similarly, around Mana Pools National Park, many lodges are also close between January to March due to the rains, although it usually consists of afternoon showers. This is also when a lot of wildlife is born though. So, the grass is greener and all that.

The best time to visit Victoria Falls or “Mosi-oa-Tunya” (The Smoke That Thunders) depends on how you would like to experience the falls and the surrounding area. It is a year-round destination, but every season brings something distinct to appreciate. Even when the water levels of the falls are low, you will have amazing panoramic views and the opportunity to spot numerous rainbows above and in the middle of the falls, as well as great conditions for activities such as Whitewater rafting.

The best time to witness the fullness of Victoria Falls is right after the rainy season: in April and May, the falls are at their peak.

However, it is the August to December low water season that is regarded as the best time to go white-water rafting at Victoria Falls – the volume and speed of the water is reduced, and the rapids are more exposed.
