Tanzania and Zanzibar

Tanzania is the largest country in East Africa. Its name was created following the unification of two states: Tanganyika and Zanzibar in April 1964.  Tanzania is best known for some of its famous attractions such as Serengeti Under Canvas, Ngorongoro Crater, Mount Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar, and its white sandy beaches. Tanzania has an estimation of 59.09 million inhabitants and its capital is Dodoma but Dar es salaam remains is the largest city in East Africa.

Tanzania offers a wealth of natural and cultural experiences to be treasured for a lifetime and provides the traveller the opportunity to enjoy a variety of experiences from the beautiful turquoise beaches in Zanzibar – the lush vistas of the Usambara mountains, the tallest peak in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro to the wild Mahale Mountains jungles, and endless plains in the Serengeti. In a country that’s rich in wildlife, landscape, and culture, it’s hard to get bored.

As a safari haven, Tanzania is home to the world’s wildest and most picturesque animal reserves. Tarangire and Lake Manyara national parks are excellent introductions to the safari adventure, while the Serengeti and Ngorongoro are absolutely spectacular! Serengeti National Park, the land of the endless plains teeming with wildlife where families can enjoy safaris of many types, and hot air balloon rides, which fascinate children and adults alike! The Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is widely regarded as the world’s eighth wonder. The largest concentration of species on the globe may be found in the old volcano crater within this Eden-like reserve, which feels like you’re witnessing the Earth as it was when life first began. As in the Serengeti, you won’t be able to travel more than 30 seconds without spotting an animal of some kind.  Ruaha National Park and Selous Game Reserve are additional wildlife locations offering guests enthralling wildlife encounters.

A visit to Tanzania is never completed without a white sandy beach stay.

Whether you prefer backpacker waterfronts with vibrant party scenes or private islands with abandoned stretches of untouched sand, there are beaches to suit all tastes in Tanzania. The most famous are located on Zanzibar Island, and you will be forgiven for thinking you were in a tropical paradise with white beaches, coconut trees, turquoise Indian Ocean waters, and an absence of the crowd of tourists. However, if diving is more your thing, you can learn to dive at one of the numerous dive centres that the local resorts have – the seas around the island are crystal clear and home to a diverse array of marine life.

Best time to travel to Tanzania

Tanzania is located close to equator in South Hemisphere, therefore, similar to other countries of that part of Africa Tanzania has two rainy seasons.

The long rainy season from March to May and brings along tropical downpours in the afternoons and many safari camps close.

The short rains occur November and December but has very little impact on the game viewing.

June to October is the long dry season and the best time to see the Great Migration in the Serengeti with little chance of rain in Zanzibar. January and February also offer good options, as well as November to mid-December, outside peak season rates and the crowds.

July to September is considered Peak Season.

Therefore, the best time to visit Tanzania and Zanzibar is anytime except March to May.
