Tour Details

Notten’s Bush Camp is a gem camp situated in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve within the Greater Kruger National Park, known for having one of the richest game populations in the country, the chances of seeing the Big Five: lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino are excellent. Guests are almost guaranteed sightings of the Big Five and the reserve is famous for incredible leopard sightings.

Family run, the lodge prides itself on generous hospitality that keeps guests returning year after year. Established in 1985 when the family decided to open their home to visitors seeking an authentic safari experience, this Camp is now managed by the fourth generation since its inception.
Over the years, Notten’s team has refined the experience and kept abreast of many of the developments in this keenly competitive industry. At the same time, they have resisted specific changes to retain a genuine spirit of safari, allowing for a more significant communion between man and Nature.

The camp itself is situated under a canopy of indigenous riverine trees, African Ebony and Marulas leadwood. With only 9 exclusive private suites, guests are assured of personalised service when visiting Notten’s Bush Camp. Each private suite is elegantly styled, spacious and cooled by ceiling fans. A magical atmosphere is created with the purposeful absence of electric lighting; the ambient candlelight and lanterns capture an enchanting spirit of romance. With splendid panoramic views, this private game lodge is the perfect place for peace and relaxation while watching animals meander past.
Attentive staff and the superbly skilled and knowledgeable rangers and trackers provide world-class hospitality and wonderful sightings of all kinds of wildlife, not just the big 5, all combined to make an unforgettable experience.

Itinerary

Day 1 Johannesburg – Notten's Bush Camp

Departure in the morning from OR Tambo Airport in Johannesburg, and board your flight to Skukuza Airport. On arrival at the Airport, you will be welcomed by the camp’s team and transferred with fellow guests on the 4 x 4 Game vehicle. This is a game drive transfer as you will see wildlife as soon as you enter the game reserve.
Enjoy Welcome drinks while completing the check-in procedures. Afterwards, enjoy
lunch, it is time for a little siesta and unwinding before your first safari adventure.
Around 15h30, gather for a decadent high tea during which you will be introduced to your ranger
who will share great pointers on how to spot the wild animals in the bush. After your briefing, Board on the lodge 4 x 4 Open Landcruiser before setting off on your first safari drive in the park. The absence of windows and the elevated vantage position allow for excellent photographic opportunities. You will have an amazing chance not only to view the game but also to listen to and smell the African bush and its denizens.

While on Game Drive, you will stop for Sundowners at a magnificent location and toast the splendour of Africa as you watch the sunset. As darkness falls, nocturnal animals of the bush get excited as they celebrate “their dawn” and come out. Your skilled tracker will scan the landscape using a spotlight, which illuminates animals’ eyes. A variety of completely different species can be seen on the night drive back to the lodge. Arrival at the lodge is usually around 7 pm, allowing time to freshen up before enjoying dinner around a campfire with the sounds of the crackling fire and night noises discussing the afternoon highlights.

Room Type: Suite
Meal Type: All meals, two game drives and guided bush walk per day, local soft drinks, house wines and beers are included.

Day 2 - 3On the Safari at Notten’s Bush Camp

At Notten’s a typical day begins at about 5h30 with a wake-up call and guests gather either on the wooden deck of the Notten’s Bush Camp to watch the sunrise or in the “Boma”, under the Marula trees, where tea and coffee together with muffins and rusks are served. Monkeys peer from the branches and watch one’s every move with intent and curiosity. After tea, the guests are taken on an early morning wildlife safari game drive in the open Land Rovers with a ranger and Shangaan tracker.
The game drive traverses the bush on Notten’s land, following the spoor and scent of nocturnal animals and avoiding trees which have been trampled by elephants, but sticking predominantly to the dirt roads that make their way through the bush. Returning from the morning game drive, guests are treated to a hearty “bush feast” on the deck.

In between Game drives, guests are welcome to take part in walking safaris which will provide them with an opportunity to experience the beauty and fascination of Africa’s flora and fauna.
Lunch is served in the dining area around 14h00.
16h00: A high tea is served on the open plan deck before leaving for another game drive. Enjoy this tea whilst watching zebra on the open plain, an elephant taking a “bath” in the waterhole, or a troop of baboons just being their normal selves! High tea consists of Gilly’s selection of tea, coffee, and iced teas. Notten’s famous bread, Notten’s nutty wheat, spinach and feta, or a delicious cheese and sundried tomato accompanied with cheeses, figs and preserved ginger. A variety of meats and pickles. Satisfied, guests leave the tea table and board the Land Rover for the sunset game drive/evening drive. Driving through the bush at night in search of nocturnal predators, eyes are captured by the tracker’s spotlight as he scans the bush. A leopard, a herd of impala, a wary hyena …. the element of surprise is always there. Every sound and every movement captures one’s attention. The bush at night has a life of its own.
Back again at the lodge after an exhilarating afternoon of unforgettable bush life. Get ready for dinner and time to share tales around the campfire and make new friends. After another evening under the African stars, enjoy your last night in the wild.
