Family holidays are very special times for both parents and children as they are an opportunity for family members to escape everyday busy city life, pause, and spend quality time together and there is no better way to create lifetime memories as a family than on a safari adventure in Zambia, the birthplace of walking safaris.

On this journey, guests will be staying at small camps specifically curated because they are child friendly, and the staff has experience dealing with children, for instance preparing special meals for them or keeping them busy while parents are enjoying quality adults time but most importantly some of these accommodations are owner-run which create a kind of homely feeling and an authentic sense of exclusivity. Furthermore, having the owner in attendance gives serenity to the families.

This family adventure starts in the Lower Zambezi National Park with wildlife-watching both inland and on the river, a scenic boat cruise, and some tiger fishing.

The next stop on this epic safari is in South Luangwa National Park, a world-renowned wildlife haven where concentrations of the game along the meandering Luangwa River and its lagoons are amongst the most intense in Africa.

The final stop on this vacation is at Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, considered the best location to chill out after multiple wildlife days of game viewing. This an opportunity for the whole family to see and witness this breath-taking phenomenon “the Smoke that thunders” in the local language “the Mosi-oa-Tunya”; learn a thing or two about conservation, visit a nearby school, embark on a Sundowner storytelling about David Livingstone and his friends Sussi and Chuma while parents enjoy a sundowner cruise on the Zambezi River.

Day 1 - 4Lower Zambezi National Park

Upon arrival at Lusaka International Airport, you will be met by our representative who will assist you onto your light-scheduled domestic aircraft. From here you will be flown to Jeki Airstrip in the Lower Zambezi National Park.

On arrival at the airstrip, a guide will be waiting to whisk you into the bush, a journey of about 1 hour game-drive transfer through the park to Potato Bush Camp, a Luxury small Tented gem sets on the banks of the Zambezi River in the heart of the Lower Zambezi National Park.

Potato Bush Camp lies at the confluence of two rivers in the Chiawa Game Management Area and opposite Mana Pools. These areas are incredibly dense with wildlife and whether you are walking, driving or just fishing there is a constant stream of exciting interactions

Potato Bush Camp offers an impressive range of land and water safari excursions, with the Zambezi River providing endless wonder in the land-locked country. Guests will be treated to two safari excursions daily.

During the 4 x 4 game drives, expect to see herds of elephants, some lions, wild dogs, leopards, hippos, buffalo, zebra and different types of antelope. The river safaris are not short of surprises as it is very common to see Hippo breaching just meters away from your boat, herds of Elephant crossing from island to island ahead of you, and majestic Lions enjoying a refreshing drink after a day lounging in the hot African sun…. Sundowner cruises are a superb way to relax and enjoy the spectacular beauty of the Zambezi River and offer great photo opportunities against often-spectacular African sunsets.

Tiger fishing is another activity enjoyed by Potato Bush Camp guests and does not require one to be a professional fisherman. Bird lovers are also rewarded during water activities as the riverbanks are also home to many bird species and flocks of birds skim the waterline, the wildlife viewing complimenting your fishing excursions. In between daily activities spoil yourself with relaxing and nurturing body therapy designed to alleviate stress and soothe tired or tight muscles, leaving you feeling revitalised and refreshed.

There are only four tents altogether, including three Luxury Safari Tents and one two-bedroom Family House. The Luxury Safari Tents have plenty of creature comforts, including a plunge pool and two-person hammock, as well as folding doors that open out onto a large balcony perfect for relaxing and watching wildlife roam past.

Room Type: Luxury 2 -bedroom Safari Tent with private plunge pool
Meal Basis: Full Board including all local drinks and house wine

Day 5 - 8South Luangwa National Park

Today after a last morning activity followed by breakfast, you will be driven back to Jeki airstrip in time for your scheduled domestic flight to Mfuwe Airport (or via Lusaka depending on the travel season) in the South Luangwa National Park known as the birthplace of the walking safari and one of the premier game viewing destinations in Zambia and throughout Africa.

On arrival at Mfuwe Airport, you will be welcomed and driven to Time + Tide Mchenja Camp, (or Kakuli or split your stay between the two camps – you are free to choose) your home for the next five days.

Seat and enjoy the game drive road transfer to Time + Tide Mchenja Camp is a small luxury bush camp set on the banks of the Luangwa River beneath a magnificent grove of ebony trees from which it derives its name “Mchenja” meaning “ebony” in the local dialect.

Overlooking a wide river expanse, the camp is wonderful for watching large herds of elephants crossing the Luangwa.

From your bedroom deck, the spot follows the flick of a leopard’s tail across the river or sits within reach of an elephant as it feeds on the seed pods just outside your room. Listen to baboons bark and monkeys chat in the vicinity of the camp.

Here, whether on foot, by game vehicle or from the comfort of your private luxury Tent, game spotting does not require any effort because the wildlife comes to you. The area is

teaming with wildlife and because the wildlife is prolific and to track it each day on foot is a memory that will last a lifetime.

Guests will enjoy Night and Day game drives, walking safaris (for 12 years and older), cultural visits for the whole family to get an insight into the daily life of the local communities, and canoeing and boat cruises (seasonal).

In between the game activities, parents can indulge in spa treatments while the young ones are spending time in the kitchen with the chef for some baking skills or learning how to make beats with recycling material.

The camp boasts five stylishly designed tents only, each under its own thatched roof and with a deck in front overlooking the Luangwa River. The tents have inside baths with an outside shower room. There is a small pool alongside the bar within the thatched main chitenje, allowing guests to seek cool refuge after their morning’s safari activities.

Because of the size of the camp, guests can expect personalised service and attention to detail.
