Zambia is regarded by many as one of the last true wildernesses and this continent’s greatest secret as the country offers safari opportunities unlike anywhere else in Africa. The wetlands and flood plains attract diverse bird life and plenty of animals. Get up close and personal with the wildlife along Zambia’s mighty rivers. Safari on Foot during walking safaris, go on 4 x 4 Game drives day and night and get insights into the locals’ culture through village visits.

Your journey starts in the Lower Zambezi National Park, renowned for its mesmerising beauty and epic land and water-based big game safari experiences: from game drives to canoeing, scenic boat cruises, walking safaris and tiger fishing.

The second leg of your trip will take you to the South Luangwa National Park, an unspoiled wilderness, known as the Valley of the Leopard and the home to the walking safari. With endemic giraffes and wildebeest, and endangered wild dogs, the game viewing here is second to none.

Round off this epic safari by visiting the Mosi-oa-Tunya which means ‘The Smoke that Thunders’, a UNESCO World Heritage site considered as the perfect place to unwind after a wildlife safari. Visit the Falls and witness their thunder and enjoy the many activities on offer in the town such as Scenic Flights over the Falls, elephant back safari… or seeking a bit of adrenaline try bungy jumping, and helicopter flips.

Day 1 - 4Lower Zambezi National Park

Upon arrival at Lusaka International Airport, you will be met by our representative who will assist you onto your light-scheduled domestic aircraft. From here you will be flown to Jeki Airstrip in the Lower Zambezi National Park. On arrival at the airstrip, a guide will be waiting to whisk you into the bush, a journey of about 1 hour game-drive transfer through the park to Potato Bush Camp, a Luxury small Tented gem sets on the banks of the Zambezi River in the heart of the Lower Zambezi Potato Bush Camp lies at the confluence of two rivers in the Chiawa Game Management Area and opposite Mana Pools. These areas are incredibly dense with wildlife and whether you are walking, driving or just fishing there is a constant stream of exciting interactions Potato Bush Camp offers an impressive range of land and water safari excursions, with the Zambezi River providing endless wonder in the land-locked country.

During the 4 x 4 game drives, expect to see herds of elephants, some lions, wild dogs, leopards,
hippos, buffalo, zebra and different types of antelope. The river safaris are not short of surprises as it is very common to see Hippo breaching just meters away from your boat, herds of Elephant crossing from island to island ahead of you, and majestic Lions enjoying a refreshing drink after a day lounging in the hot African sun…. Sundowner cruises are a superb way to relax and enjoy the spectacular beauty of the Zambezi River and offer great photo opportunities against often-spectacular African sunsets.

Tiger fishing is another activity enjoyed by Potato Bush Camp guests and does not require one to be a professional fisherman. Bird lovers are also rewarded during water activities as the riverbanks are also home to many bird species and flocks of birds skim the waterline, the wildlife viewing complimenting your fishing excursions. In between daily activities spoil yourself with relaxing and nurturing body therapy designed to alleviate stress and soothe tired or tight muscles, leaving you feeling revitalised and refreshed.

There are only four tents altogether, including three Luxury Safari Tents and one two-bedroom Family House. The Luxury Safari Tents have plenty of creature comforts, including a plunge pool and two-person hammock, as well as folding doors that open out onto a large balcony perfect for relaxing and watching wildlife roam past.

Room Type: Luxury Safari Tent
Meal Basis: Full Board including all local drinks and house wine

Day 5 - 8South Luangwa National Park

Today after a last morning activity followed by breakfast, you will be driven back to Jeki airstrip in time for your scheduled domestic flight to Mfuwe Airport (or via Lusaka depending on the travel season) in the South Luangwa National Park known as the birthplace of the walking safari and one of the premier game viewing destinations in Zambia and throughout Africa.

On arrival at Mfuwe Airport, you will be welcomed and driven to Time + Tide Nsolo Camp, your first stop on your exploration of the South Luangwa wilderness. Seat and enjoy a three-hour game drive road transfer to the camp. Named after the honeyguide bird, Time + Tide Nsolo plays host to some of the most striking and unusual bird species in South Luangwa National Park. On a game drive, you are unlikely to come across any other vehicles, making you feel as though you have got the park to yourselves. Every corner you turn you will be faced with yet another change of scenery, from sprawling savanna, and shady woodlands to small hippo-filled lagoons. The camp consists of 5 spacious safari tents, all made from local grasses, conveniently raised on wooden decks to allow for a better view of the surroundings.

Each has a feather-top bed, an open-air en-suite bathroom and a shady private deck offering views of a permanent river lagoon that teems with wildlife. Sited alongside an elephant path, there’s no end to the action around camp. Chuckle at warthogs and vervet monkeys while enjoying a cold local beer from the bar. Enjoy life’s simple pleasures with afternoon tea and cake in the spacious main lounge. With a regular wild dog den nearby and lion pride using the dry riverbed as a thoroughfare, walking and driving safaris around the camp offer big game viewing at its best.

Time + Tide Nsolo combines well with the other three Norman Carr bush camps in South Luangwa as
part of a walking safari itinerary. For an even greater sense of wilderness, guests can enjoy the ‘Return to the Wild’ sleep-out experience which is available at a supplementary cost and is a superb way to enjoy the African bush. Activities here include Game drives (day and night), walking safaris and cultural visits.

Big cats galore and beautiful landscapes.
This morning your exploration of the South Luangwa Wilderness continues. After a leisurely breakfast, a game drive road transfer will deliver you to Time + Tide Kakuli Camp. But If walking is your forte, escorted by the camp’s experienced guide, you will walk to your next accommodation at Time + Tide Kakuli Camp Here, it is all about spectacular views and abundant wildlife on foot and by game vehicle. The area is renowned for some of the best game viewing opportunities in Zambia with resident pride of lions, and leopards, a seasonal colony of jewel-like carmine bee-eaters and other hidden wonders.

The Camp is situated on an elevated stretch of the Luangwa River near the confluence of the Luwi River. It is set on high ground so the chances of it flooding are very slim. If Kakuli flooded, the whole Valley would be underwater! During the lush emerald ‘secret season’ venture out by boat and on foot to enjoy some of the best opportunities for wildlife and landscape photography. Take in spectacular views of the Luangwa River from your perch high above on its bank!

Time + Tide Kakuli Camp, meaning old buffalo bull, was the nickname given by locals to Norman Carr, the pioneer of walking safaris hence It is an exciting base for walking and game drives in the dry season and is our only camp open in the heart of the park during our ‘Secret Season’, 20 Jan – 5 April With only 5 luxury Tents, guests can expect personal service and attention to details. The camp is designed to make the most of the panoramic setting, each offering a feather-top bed, indoor and outdoor showers and a covered open-air seating area.

Room Type: Luxury Safari Tent
